About the release…
we had been friends with Depravation for a while. Jonas had released our second tape “the humane condition” on his label Dark Omen records back in the day and later sold it to John who renamed it to Black Omega Recordings, John then co-released this split with us. so this kinda stayed in the family.

about the release ...
we had known Thränenkind since our beginnings. Our first short tour was with them and we shared the van on a few other tours throughout the years as well. it must have been on one of these trips that we made the decision to put out a split together. the important part to us was that each band had to record a song of the other band in their very own style. shortly before the split went into the pressing plant Thränenkind changed their name to King Apathy and shortly after the split the band sadly disbanded.

about the music ...
the song was sitting on my hard drive for quite some time already. most of the guitars on "gehenna of fires" were played by my friend Paul Bliss (ex-Afterlife kids, ex-Henry Fonda) while I was still sharing a flat with him. it was also the last recording with Torsten on vocals as we parted ways before the next release.

about the release ...
Ast and Ancst shared a special bond. not only did Nico from Ast played guitar in Ancst for the first years but I also did play with him in Henry Fonda till we disbanded in 2019. he would also take my place as a drummer in afterlife kids after I quit and we would share a flat together for a while. our circle of friends was small and dedicated around the time we started doing live shows with Ancst and so both bands ended up on a few smaller tours and weekend trips together in the first years. we also shared the same love for electronic music only releases and put out tapes together with Nico's label Anderland Records. After an Album on Vendetta and some smaller releases, I think they disbanded. Nico plays in Nidare now along with our guitar player Jonas.

about the music ...
This was the first release that would feature me on vocals as before that I was doing the instruments and Torsten did all the lyrics and vocals. We started the live band and both of us would now sing as I was in fact a horrible instrumentalist, so we had to take that approach into the studio as well. looking back at these songs they reflect our beginnings. it was the first real release after "in turmoil" and you could hear that we are much closer to the proto-Ancst stuff than to the style we incorporated on "moloch". I know a lot of folks that love the record for its cold production. the truth is I really didn't know what I was doing and think the mix sounds weird but it was never the less important as "moloch" sounded way better thanks to the mistakes I did on that split.
